Originally premiered by the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre of Scotland in 2010, David Greig’s sequel to Macbeth will be having its first American production at Hillcrest High School. The play (written in modern vernacular) starts right where Shakespeare left off as a British idealist invades Scotland with his army of young men to establish peace in a foreign country. Peace, however, is not as easy to create as they expect. The British boys are met by the real leader of Scotland (who did not kill herself after washing her hands with blood as previously reported) who still leads a gigantic army of women warriors with their own plans for their country’s future. Featuring a gigantic cast of athletic and exciting male and female warriors, this sprawling, modern epic with surprising twists, will be performed as only Hillcrest can: with a gigantic cast of student athletes and actors from across the school, as well as a thoughtful exploration of the idea of peace in the modern era.
